What an amazing act of love Jesus Christ did! While keeping his deity, entirely and perfectly, He lowered himself to the role of being totally human. Even more awe-inspiring is the completely selfless and humble attitude He exampled for us in his humanity…that of a servant, a slave. Bro. Jeff encourages us to seek to be more selfless like our Savior.
“When Jesus thought about who He was, as equal with the Father, He didn’t think about what that would benefit Him. He thought in terms of what He needed to do to save us. Paul taught that you and I need to have that same kind of mind, one more concerned about others than what would benefit ourselves.” Here, Bro. Jeff focuses on the selfless attitude of Christ.
Not only does having a “mind of Christ” require “likeness of mind,” but also “lowliness of mind,” or humility. Bro. Jeff provides practical pointers in cultivating humility as we are challenged to evaluate our own motives and attitudes.
It is said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and having a mindset like Christ will avert division and disunity. Bro. Jeff encourages us in our spiritual growth by looking at the division that Paul exposed and the distinctives that Paul explained in Philippians 2.
Focusing on Christian love, Bro. Jeff continues looking at the example of Onesimus, a runaway slave that gained spiritual freedom in salvation. Listen to see how important it is that God’s love is reflected in us, in our vulnerability with others and concern for one another.
